Yani L. Dickens, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist working in private practice and also at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Counseling Services. He provides UNR student athletes with counseling and sport psychology consulting services as an adjunct clinical faculty member with the University of Nevada School of Medicine. In private practice, Dr. Dickens provides sport psychology consultations, psychotherapy, and assessment. He considers himself a generalist with a specialty in sport psychology consulting. He enjoys working with people with a variety of concerns including stress, anxiety, and depression. He also enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds, and he has interest and experience with teaching, research, and assessment.

Dr. Dickens began working at the University of Nevada, Reno in September 2008 after completing his postdoctoral fellowship at Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services. His internship was completed at the Utah State University Student Counseling Center’s American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited psychology internship program, providing counseling and sport psychology consulting services to university students. He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) APA-accredited doctoral program in 2007 after completing his dissertation, a sport psychology study on inner experience and golf performance. His clinical psychology doctoral program at UNLV was ranked in the Top 100 according to U.S. News and World Report in 2008 (see ranking). He received his Bachelor’s degree at University of Nevada, Reno in 1999.
